The Parks Discovery iPhone and Android app from Parks Victoria has just been released. The app is available on both iOS and Android, and in mobile and tablet format. Parks Victoria approached Wave Digital a few months ago wanting to digitise their former magazine.
The app consists of two broad sections, one called Parks Magazine which contains interesting articles on Victoria’s parks, and a Parks Directory. Wave worked with Parks Victoria to populate both sections of the apps separately. We broke the magazine section requirements into a CSV template that could be completed by the client, then associated all necessary images with the correct article. The directory component proved more challenging. We solved it by building a custom map interface which had an overlay of all of the parks’ locations.
As is our preference, Wave built both the iOS and Android apps natively. This allows for easier extension of features if required, and also allows the apps to function offline, which was important given the remote locations of some of Victoria’s parks. This work aligns very closely with Wave Digital’s digitisation expertise; the apps are replacing a physical magazine. Other digitisation projects include RACT’s Learner Driver Training iPhone and Android app, the University of Melbourne Dental School's assessment system, and V/Line’s business intelligence app. Praise for the apps can be seen from Parks Victoria Twitter and the Minister for Environment.
Are you looking for a Melbourne-based app developer with digitisation expertise? We'd love to hear from you.
