What do you do at Wave Digital?
My position at Wave Digital is Senior Developer.
I am a full stack developer so I use a range of technologies, but I do have a bigger focus on backend development. This includes software development, DevOps, system design, as well as evaluating and recommending software solutions.
I also lead Wave Digital's technical function, and in this capacity am responsible for continually improving our technical processes via documentation, code reviews and security analysis.
What did you do before you joined Wave Digital?
I was IT Manager for a transport company. This was an 'all rounder' type role that involved IT Management, System Administration, Support and also included developing and maintaining their in-house software.
This broad-based experience gave me insight into the technical challenges faced by businesses, including engaging external software agencies. This perspective has been invaluable in my work at Wave Digital, as I have seen software delivery from both sides.
What do you like best about working at Wave Digital?
The atmosphere at Wave is generally relaxing (light-filled office, great music and coffee, fun and talented colleagues), but the work is challenging so you never get bored.
We also work with a mix of technologies which I enjoy.
What has been your favourite project while at Wave Digital?
I enjoyed working on the VicTraffic iOS app for VicRoads.
It has been a highlight because it is such a widely used app and is really making a difference to Victorians (who doesn't want to get home as quickly and safely as possible to their family after a day in the office).
What's something fun we don't know about you?
I play Trombone in my spare time.
