Mieux infant motor skills development screening app
mieux is a health technology startup with a web-based solution for parents to evaluate and track their baby’s gross motor development. Existing assessment tools that are sensitive enough to detect motor delay are impractical in that they require specialist knowledge or training, are lengthy to perform and repeated assessment with face-to-face consultations are necessary.
mieux guides caregivers through a series of motor skill assessments presented using 3D animation. An easy to interpret chart shows their baby's percentile rank, and if low, gives advice on options for appropriate follow-up support.
An essential element of this project is enabling caregivers to provide accurate, valid information about the motor skills their baby is able to perform. mieux allows caregivers to identify whether their baby has gross motor delay, and if so, guides them toward accessing early intervention services in a timely manner.
More than 295,000 infants aged less than 1 year reside in Australia. Best estimates suggest 13% of this population will have developmental delay, and that 8% will have specific motor delays at age two years. mieux will better define motor skill emergence for Australian children and at the same time, provide care-givers with the information they require at a critical time in their child’s development.
